GAA to create 200 jobs 07 October 2011 Pat Daly The GAA hopes to have at least 200 unemployed players in new jobs by 2012. Under the Government's JobBridge initiative, the Association believes it can get the players into 'paid' positions as soon as the New Year. Pat Daly and the provincial councils are currently busy instigating structures that will culminate in the out-of-work players placed in coaching positions and other roles. The scheme would see the players continue to receive their unemployment benefit with an additional €50 paid by the Government for those who work 19-and-a-half hours per week. It is expected that the scheme will cost the Government around €2.5m per year to keep afloat. While the monetary benefit to the players is minimal, the initiative at least affords them an opportunity to get a toe into the workplace.
