Walsh bids for another historic handball final appearance

Walsh makes the trip to the capital on Sunday with a place in the All-Ireland final at stake, writes Michael McGee.

Walsh from the St. Mary’s club already holds an astonishing 28 All-Ireland titles. He won his first title back in 1974. Walsh, Sligo’s most decorated handball player of all time goes into the match with a niggling shoulder injury that has hampered the Sligo player’s preparations. His opponent is Dublin’s John Kealy an unknown player at this level but Walsh will take nothing for granted as he gears up for the Dubliner. The experienced Walsh should progress to the final and a tilt at recording another historic title in the offing

Walsh will also appear in the All-Ireland doubles with partner Padraig Maye. They will be joined by another Sligo pairing in the Emerald Masters B doubles of Mick McMorrow & Hugh McGarry

Harte, Taheny & Quinn in Connacht Juvenile finals

Sligo will also be bidding for 2 Connacht handball titles. On Wednesday last Stanley Harte & Ross Taheny recorded an impressive straight sets victory over Galway’s Ben Murray & Ronan Keane. The duo advance to the provincial final against Mayo’s Conor Burke & Cormac Moran. Castleconnor teenager Aoife Quinn is bidding to win her third provincial title in 2 years in the U17 girls final. Roscommon’s Caoimhe Shanager stands in the way of Quinn as she aims for a treble of Connacht titles
