A Survey
of all the primary schools in the urban area have been carried out on children
taking part in our G.A.A. games to address a fall out of a large number of kids
playing for their schools but not playing for their clubs. The completed survey
will be ready to go out to clubs at next monthly meeting. Clubs within the
county are reminded that they should have their 5 year club plan in place
before end of August 2013 if they are to be eligible for any grants or funding
from Connaught Council etc.
Our
Centre of Excellence at Scarden should have the contractors back on site very
shortly. The three pitches are ready for use, stop ball nets and goal posts are
ready to install, with fencing to pitches, drainage and road works to complete
phase one. We would ask all people within and outside the county to support our
fundraising efforts to get this centre up and running as soon as possible.

Elverys/GPA Youth Camp:
David
Kelly, Pat Hughes, Brian Egan, Colm McGee, Charlie Harrison and Ross Donovan
will be coaching and talking about life as an Inter-county player. The camps
are being led by high profile inter-county players such as David Kelly Sligo, Dublin’s
Bernard Brogan, Donegal’s Michael Murphy and Kilkenny’s Michael Fennelly and
there are over 120 inter-county players involved in the various coaching teams
nationwide. The Sligo camp is happening between the 24th and 28th of June in
Owenmore Gaels GAA pitch in Collooney for boys between the ages of 13 and 15.
The camps are the latest joint venture between the GAA and the players’ body
and will see these youths get an insight into the life of an inter-county
player in an action packed week that will include conditioned games, skills
development, mental preparation, sports nutrition and athletic development. All
participants will receive a limited edition Elverys Sports pack while there
will also be an exciting skills competition with the chance to win a Lenovo
laptop in each camp. It’s a very important age for kids to say involved in
sport and we feel very strongly about putting in place this type of initiative
that gives kids the chance to stay involved in the GAA, in their communities
during the summer.
