CONGRATULATIONS to our Senior Ladies Team on
winning the “County Championship” for 2013.
Under the management and direction of Conor Gormley, Jonathan Rogers and
Peter Wynne they have had a very successful year winning the 2013 League, runners
up in the final of both the Connacht 7’s and the Connacht Club League and now
the most prestigious title in the County “The Senior Championship”. It has become an annual event the meeting of
Geevagh and St. Nathys and Geevagh have come out on top in recent years but the
attitude of St. Nathys was different this year showing a more dominant and
confident nature about them. It was a very close game with a lot of defensive
work required from both sides. St. Nathys
had the edge on the goal scoring with some all important goals at vital times
coming from Ailish Leonard & Noelle Gormley in the first half and Aileen
Hannon and Denise McGrath in the second half.
It was both a joyous and an emotional win for the St. Nathys team as
they suffered narrow defeats in the previous 2 years. The final score ended St. Nathys 4.11 to
Geevagh 1. 14. The team lined out at
follows: Katriona
Connolly, Yvonne Roddy, Angela Doohan, Cammie Kennedy, Eleanor Kennedy,
Ann-Marie Coleman, Etna Flanagan, Aileen Hannon (1.0), Tara Doody, Denise
McGrath (1.0), Aine Gormley (0.1), Ailish Leonard (1.0), Sandra Scully (0.1),
Noelle Gormley (1.8), Kathleen Coleman (0.1), Subs: Chloe Gormanley, Grainne
McDonagh, Aine Brennan, Niamh Gorman, Anita Toolan, Jacqueline Barrett, Nicole
Martin, Ciara Gorman, Emily Whitehead.
The U14’s were
left in disappointed on Thursday last when they met St. Marys in the Final of
the “B” Championship. The Management of
Tracy O’Kennedy, Helen Niland, Sharon Henry and Tom Keane lined out a strong
and talented St. Nathys team but unfortunately St. Marys were the better side
on the night. It was a dark wet and
windy evening and the girls had to battle with the conditions as well as the
opponents. They were defeated in the
first half as St. Marys had the wind and forced through a series of goals to
give them a confident edge going into the second half but St. Nathys have a
good team moral and they never gave up fighting and clawed there way back into
the game but time ran out and they suffered a 5 point defeat becoming runners
up in 2013.
The U16’s are
left to play out there Championship rounds and we wish them luck as they work
towards a County Final. The Minor and
the Senior Teams now go on to the Connacht stages which commences early October
details to follow when confirmed.
The U13 and U15
development blitz was on in Ballyhaunis on Saturday last and Sligo entered
several teams. St. Nathys were
represented on each group by Jane O’Dowd, Roisin Scanlon, Laoise McDonagh, and
Belinda Mitchell.
Congratulations to

Ladies All Ireland Intermediate Game with Sligo Referee Gus Chapman.
