Congratulations to
St. Nathys who were awarded the 2013 Senior Championship Title having defeated
Geevagh at the week end with a final score of 4.11 to 1.14. It has turned into an annual meeting for the
2 sides both teams showing huge passion for winning the game. Best of Luck to St. Nathys who now go forward
to competing in Connacht.
The Intermediate Play
off re-play between St. Michaels & Curry, which was a curtain raiser to the
senior game was another exciting dual. St.
Michaels took the first half but Curry started the second the better side and
St. Michaels officials were on tender hooks as curry came to within a point of
them an unfortunate free was missed by Curry in the dying seconds to see St.
Michaels win the game by 1 point making way for them to play Tourlestrane in
the Intermediate Final on Saturday next.
The U14 finals took
place midweek with the “C” championship being contested by CT Gaels and
Coolera/Strandhill in Achonry on Wednesday last. CT Gaels emerged victorious in that group
while the “B” and “C” competitions were held on Thursday night under lights in
Sligo IT. There was a clear winner in
the “B” competition when St. Marys defeated St. Nathys and In the “A” Championship
Eastern Harps and Drumcliff battled it out with the cup going to the Green and
White of the Eastern Harps.
Sligo entered the
Connacht Development Blitz in Ballyhaunis with U13 and U15 teams competing. 28
U15’s played and acquitted themselves well on the field while the U13’s crowned
the day with 48 players and performed very well. The County board wishes to thank Sean
Kilgannon and Tracy O’Kennedy for coordinating each group but with that number
of players they had to recruit assistants Paul & Elaine Healy, & Claire
Colleran helped with the U15’s and with the U13’s were Tommy Oates, Gerry
O’Connell, Tommy Rooney, Maureen Walsh & Lisa Melly. We sincerely thank them for making themselves
available on the day.
At the
recent County Board meeting it was decided to advertise for the management
positions for County Teams for 2014. The
positions available are open to all individuals, which will cater for U12, U14,
U16, Minor & Adult teams. There are
very good players in our County and we need to help develop them and keep them
in football and the only way to do that is to have interested and energetic
people managing them. Please make
contact to someone within your local club who will give you the details on how
to make a Submission or you can contact Louise O’Donnell on 087 6356679. Submission to be in by 9th October 2013.
The next County Board meeting will take place
on Monday 14th October at 8.30pm.
All clubs are asked to send their required number of delegates.
