St Marys took
on Bunninadden in the Senior League and stretched to win by 0-15 to 0-07. In an excellent team performance, everyone
including those introduced from the bench played their part. With two tough
league games to come the lads are still in a position to challenge for the
league title. The Juniors had a free
weekend and have already qualified for the league final following sparkling
performances in the league stages. The
spotlight will shortly return to the Championship. We are entering a Junior B team in the
Championship this year and are asking any players interested in getting
involved who have not been contacted already to speak to Niall Murray on 087
2860239.

Our boys and girls in the U10 Community
Games squad bowed out of the provincial competition when beaten by a stronger
side from Leitrim. It was the end of an
adventure which brought tremendous enjoyment and excitement to players, mentors
and supporters alike. Our players will
be the backbone of many future St Marys sides and we look forward to watching
their development. We had a great
turnout for the Saturday morning coaching and despite some heavy showers, kids
worked hard on their skills and continue showing tremendous improvement as
weeks progress. Elsewhere our Minor
lads, despite being understrength, showed their quality when defeating a robust
Tubbercurry side by 3-17 to 2-13 in the first round of the Championship. Team of the week goes to the U14 lads who
brought their good form from the Feile to the Shield semi-final of the U14
league when defeating neighbours St Johns on a scoreline of 5-10 to 2-1. In a comprehensive victory, there were
quality performances throughout this team which this year deserved many better
results than it so far has achieved.
There was another outing for the U8 stars in the making when they
participated in a highly enjoyable blitz in Markievicz Park. This week our U12 boys squads are in action,
when in the A and D section we play Drumcliffe/Rosses Point. Our U16 boys have an important opening match
in the Championship when they meet St Molaise Gaels. To date this year, results have been unkind,
even though they have worked hard, and the Championship gives an ideal opportunity
to remedy this situation.
Ladies
Section
Every side of GAA was
been seen in the Ladies Section over the past couple of weeks. We have had tremendous highs when our girls
played high quality football and advanced to finals, unfortunately the lows
have been experienced as despite incredible performances each time we were edged
out at the final hurdle. Our U12 girls
were the latest to experience the thrill of competition when they competed in
the B league final last Friday evening against Eoghan Rua in Templeboy. In a brilliant game, St Marys were well on
top in the first half leading by 4 points at the break. However, Eoghan Rua gradually got a foothold
in the game and pulled away in the final quarter, aided by a breeze and by our
midfielder Ciara Gilroy leaving the field with an injury, eventually running
out winners 13-10. Well done to the girls for a great campaign and we now look
forward with optimism to the Championship, commencing in August. The team comprised: Aseel Ahmed, Dervla
Keaveny, Amy Hopkins, Kayla Breheny, Eden Rooney, Amy Kilfeather, Roisin Martin
(Captain) , Ciara Gilroy, Emma Corcoran, Helen Monaghan, Emma Ledwith, Sarah
Gillen , Lisa Kelly. Subs Lauren
French ,Elina Mavejeva, Aofie Maher, Diana McDonagh, Ruth Monaghan, Hannah
O'Hehir , Casey Cox (injured) - Remaining members of the squad unavailable on
the night - Ellen Bastible, Kate Gavin, Hannah Slattery, Alice McPartlan Laoise
Treanor, Orla Dee. It is a short break
for the girls as training recommences on Saturdays and Wednesdays from 12th
July in preparation for the Championship. The U10 girls played Coolera in Kent Park at
the weekend and put up a very good showing against a strong Coolera side. Best for the girls were Ella O’Donovan,
Grace Mulholland and Rachel Cawley. In
a busy week in the ladies section the lucky girls who participated in the
Gaelic4Girls Program travelled to Croke Park to take part in a National
blitz. All had a hugely enjoyable day
and next up is a Connaught Blitz in Ballyhaunis on July 13th.

his father John Clancy suddenly. As a mark of respect the U12 Gr C match
against St. Michaels will not take place on Tuesday next.
