Excitement over the next Backdoor round against Cork is growing and best wishes from all in St Marys goes to Pat and his players who have been brilliant so far.   Our thoughts are with Johnny Martin after the turn he took following County training and we trust he will have a speedy recovery.

Adult Football

The Junior League Final has been postponed until next Sunday (July 27th) due to a sad bereavement in Enniscrone.   The match takes place in Tubbercurry at 1.30 and is preceded by our U14’s taking on the same opposition in the Plate final of their league.   The Senior team had a comprehensive league win over Geevagh by 4-11 to 1-06.   The match was close at half time with Marys holding a 2 points advantage.   The second half commenced with a devastating spell from our lads which yielded 2 well worked goals from Dylan Corcoran and Seamus Cawley, and gradually the scoreline stretched with some well taken points.   Midway through the second half a classic Johnny Davey goal, which in itself was worth attending the match, ended Geevagh’s resistance.    Results elsewhere were in St Marys favour and we have qualified for the league final, which is a tremendous achievement for team management and players.

Bord na nÓg

The Minor footballers continued their winning ways grinding out a 1-17 to 1-07 victory over St Johns.    Cuilbeg is never an easy place to visit and Captain Luke Nicholson together with Dylan Kilgallon and Jack Keegan marshalled the team through difficult moments against a determined St Johns side.   The side was missing a couple of starters and their replacements stepped up impressively.   Our U16’s next test in the Championship will be against Eastern Harps this Monday.   The guys have been very unfortunate with results this year and we are hoping the tide has turned following a hugely encouraging win against St Maloise Gaels in the previous round.   The U14s meet Enniscrone/Kilglass in the rearranged B League Shield final on this Sunday at noon.   It will be an exciting double header as the match precedes the Junior League final.    Next for the U12’s is an away outing this Tuesday 22nd against St Maloise Gaels in Groups A and D.   Please keep up the great support for our teams, in particular the U14 final.   Coaching for our younger age groups continues each Saturday at 10.45.   We have large turnouts every week and the children are enjoying the games and sharpening skills every week.   Thank you to Niall and all the coaches who put in such a great effort.

Ladies Section

The Intermediate ladies were the team of the week with 2 matches in the Championship, firstly having a comfortable 8-15 to 2-05 win against St Farnons and then losing a high scoring game by a single point against Eastern Harps.   The girls deserve great credit for the performance against Eastern Harps as 11 of the team that played St Farnons were missing and Emma Hannesbury was injured early in the game.   We hope Emma’s injury is not serious and wish her a quick return to full fitness.   Next match in the Championship is Curry on August 3rd.

Training continues in each of the underage groups in preparation for the Championships.  It is important that all girls attend training when available as many people are away due to holidays, and matches will be upon us before we know it.
