The Sligo
GAA Development squad programme is an ongoing player development structure
catering for young players from U-13 right through to Minor in Football and
Hurling. Players from all over the County take part in a number of camps at
U-13 level which work on their skills, teamplay, lifeskills/Nutrition etc. Once
the players hit U-14 the players join development squads to which they train
weekly over the Spring/Summer months in preparation for inter county blitzes.
As they progress through the years at U-16 Football level they take part in Ted
Webb/Manning Cup competitions and Hurling the Niall Mc Inerney/National Blitz.
Over the
number of years the players are coached by fully qualified coaches, taken on
various trips each year, kitted out with County gear, given top quality
information from experts in the fields of Diet and Nutrition/Sports Psychology,
put on programmes by Connacht Strength and Conditioning coach Cathal Cregg and
other player development initiatives. At present there are over 200 young
players involved in our squads.
The Sligo
GAA Fun Run on August 10th will help support these programmes and
help allow the squads to enhance the quality of every player involved. The Fun
Run is also an opportunity for the Sligo GAA community and friends to come
together in a Social and Healthy living environment. So come along and be part
of our great occasion.
