The annual U12 hurling finals tournament took place on Tues.  last Aug. 26th. at Markievicz Park from 6pm onwards. With good weather conditions and the pitch in perfect condition the stage was set for some seriously good underage hurling. First up was the B1 final between Coolera-Strandhill and Castleconnor. This was well contested between two committed teams with Castleconnor having the edge in strength in some key positions. Castleconnor went on to record a good victory on a final scoreline of 0-8 to 0-3.   The A1 Final was up next between Drumcliffe/Rosses-Point and Naomh Eoin.  This proved to be a humdinger of a match with some great skill being displayed by both sides. Drumcliffe took their chances better and finished up overall winners on a final scoreline of 0-10 to 0-7.  The last match of the day was the A2 final between Calry/St. Joseph’s and Tourlestrane. This proved to be a very evenly contested game with Calry going in at half-time with a narrow two point lead.  Each side added one further point each in the second half to leave the honours with Calry/St. Joseph’s on a final scoreline of 0-3 to 0-1.  Many thanks to everbody who played a part in the running of this hugely popular event for underage hurling in Sligo – to Paddy and the Markievicz Park groundsmen for having the pitch in such good condition, to all of the referees, umpires, linesmen; to all of the team mentors and supporters who brought colour and noise to the occasion and finally to the young players themselves who have proven once again that hurling has a bright future in Co. Sligo.’
