Hard luck to our u12 hurlers who were defeated by Drumcliffe/Rosses Point in a very keenly contested A1 final in Markievicz Park last Tuesday. The sides were level 5 scores a-piece at the interval, our scores coming from the stick of midfielder Anthony Fidgeon (4 frees) and a well-struck point from his midfield partner Paul Gallagher.  Although Drumcliffe twice went ahead in the opening period of the second half, the unerring Fidgeon restored parity on both occasions from placed balls. However in spite of the heroic efforts of our backs, in particular Michael Morgan and Ethan Scully, both of whom were outstanding, Drumcliffe finished the stronger and three unanswered points in the closing five minutes ensured that Drumcliffe claimed the A1 title for the first time. Well done to both sets of players for putting on such a marvellous display of hurling.

With the underage hurling championships drawing to a close, we have three teams in semi-final action over the next week. First up on Thursday are our minors who play Tourlestrane in the MHC semi-final in Kent Park at 6.30pm. Only one point separated the sides when we met in the round robin phase and a close game is again likely to be on the cards. Meanwhile, our U14 hurlers travel to Kilcoyne Park on Friday for the U14A semi-final against Tubbercurry at 6.30pm. On Monday it will be the turn of our U16 hurlers to travel to Tubbercurry for their B semi-final against the home team.

Our annual Golden Goal fundraiser is underway at the present. Envelopes containing four unique times for the exact time that the first goal is scored in Sunday’s All-Ireland SHC final are available from club members at a cost of 5 Euro each. Club members are requested to make a special effort this week to sell the tickets to raise funds for the club.

Training continues in Kevinsfort on Wednesday at 6pm for the U14s and at 7.15pm for U16/Minor. Senior training also takes place in Kevinsfort at 7.30pm on Wednesdays.
