There was no joy for the minor team in the A2 county final against Tourlestrane in Markiecivz Park on Saturday last. The team was defeated by 4-14 to 2-14. Spectators were treated to a great game of football in which both sides battled it out to attain victory.Things looked good for St. Farnan`s when Patrick O`Connor scored the sides first goal from a pass by Niall Crean and the side led by 1-3 to 0-2. Tourlestrane, however enjoyed a purple patch and led St. Farnan`s by 3-8 to 1-4. A second goal from Patrick O` Connor gave renewed hope to the team and at half time the score read Tourlestrane  3-8, St. Farnan`s 2-6.
St. Farnan`s got three points without reply early in the second half to reduce the margin  to 2 points. Tourlestrane added another goal to their tally and St. Farnan`s chased the game from then.The team can be very proud of their performance as it is a very young side. Thanks to all the players and mentors Kieran O`Connor, Tommy Joe Cawley and Ciaran O`Connor.

The under 14 team made its exit from the A2 championship when defeated by Tourlestrane in the semi final on Sunday morning. The final score was St. Farnan`s 1-6, Tourlestrane 5-8. St. Farnan`s opened the scoring with a point from Cahan Hallinan. The team were then dealt a heavy blow  when centre forward Keelan Kilrehill was forced to leave the field due to injury. Tourlestrane took control and aided by the breeze led 3-4 to 0-3 at the interval. Shane O`Brien got a goal shortly after the restart but St. Farnan`s could not stop Tourlestrane despite the team`s best efforts.Thanks to all players and mentors Brendan Kilrehill and Paul O`Brien for their hard work throughout the year. Football continues for many of our players in the various secondary schools competitions.
Good luck to our club players who line out with Western Gaels in the county hurling final on Sunday next. Commiserations to the girls under 12 team who also lost to Tourlestrane in the final on Saturday.
