Major Minors collect Young Player of the Year Awards

Two of our most promising underage footballers were the joint winners of the club’s young female Player of the Year award at the club’s Annual Juvenile Awards Ceremony last Saturday night in Rathcormac hall. Amanda Healy & Rachel Oates were part of the minor team which won the County B championship title in 2014. Apart from their exploits on the field of play, the girls played a key role in generating momentum across their age group, which helped ensure the club was able to field a team at this grade.

The awards night was also a celebration for several other underage teams who enjoyed success in 2014. The Girls U-12, U-14 and U-16 sides all enjoyed strong campaigns in 2014 and received their various medals on the night. So too did the boys U-12 team which won the A League and B Cup competitions.
The growth of hurling at underage level was also highlighted with the Under 12 team receiving their A Championship winners medals. And there were two sets of medals for the club’s Under 14 side which won the B Championship and were Sligo’s representatives at Feile 2014. The organisers would like to thank Ken Foley and Supermacs for providing the catering on the night, DJ Colin Feeney and especially the parents and families of the footballers who attended.

Congratulations to the Summerhill College U16 Basketball Team which won the All-Ireland U16A Title at the National Basketball Arena during the week.  Well done in particular to local lads Oisín O'Reilly, Luke McLoughlin, Jack McLoughlin, Jack Moran and Finnian Henry who were members of the panel.  All of these players have represented Drumcliffe Rosses Point GAA club at various stages.  Oisín O'Reilly was named MVP for his performance on the day which in itself is a fantastic achievement.  Oisin is currently a member of the Irish International Panel and we wish him every success with his basketball commitments.

Indoor training for our under 10 and under 12 hurlers has resumed in Oxfield on Saturday mornings from 11:15 to 12:15. New players are always welcome.
The club’s GAA Football Nursery will start on Saturday, February 28th at 9.45am. The nursery is open to all young players aged 4 and upwards.

We are particularly keen to increase the number of female football coaches at underage level this year. As our playing numbers continue to grow, so too does the number of coaching personnel needed to assist with our nursery and underage girls teams. If you are interested in being part of a vibrant underage set up, please contact our Coaching Officer Shane Campbell on 087 9086673. No previous experience is necessary as full training will given.

Club membership for 2015 is now due.
There will be two Registration dates in February:
Saturday, Feb 21 in Oxfield: 10am to 1pm.
Wednesday, Feb 25th, Scoil Realt na Mara in Rosses Point: 7 - 8.30pm.
