Fermanagh Host Sligo in "Match For Oisín"

Pete McGrath's Fermanagh entertain neighbours, Sligo on Sunday evening 10th May in a challenge match organised by friends and family of 13 year old Oisín McGrath from Belcoo, who lost his life tragically in February. A foundation has been established in memory of the talented young GAA star to encourage and promote organ donation among other causes close to the hearts of those who knew Oisín. Speaking on behalf of the family, Oisín’s aunt Sinead Dolan has said:
“We are completely devastated by what happened to Oisín and are finding it increasingly difficult to come to terms with the fact that Oisín went to school on 9th February and did not come home. We as a family, along with Oisín’s friends have chosen to channel our energies into something positive after something so horrific.”

The “Match for Oisín” is between Fermanagh and Sligo Senior County teams and will be played in Brewster Park on Sunday 10th May at 6.30 pm. Oisín’s cousin Ciarán Flaherty is a member of the current Fermanagh panel, while another cousin John McPartland, is a past member of the Sligo Senior squad. John’s father John Senior is involved in the current Sligo set up as Development Officer. The family have been overwhelmed by the support of the Fermanagh and Sligo County Boards and the Ulster Council and would also like to express their thanks to Brewster Park and all those helping to organise and assist.
There is no set admission fee on the day but there will be a collection on the gate which will go to the Oisín McGrath Foundation. The foundation has been formed in Oisín’s memory and all proceeds will be distributed to promote Organ Donation Awareness, Brain Stem and Brain Injury Research and local Youth Sports Development projects. All donations are much appreciated and everyone who shares in the family’s grief is welcome to join us to celebrate Oisín’s life and to support the foundation formed in his memory. It is a fitting tribute to a young star who was generous in life and generous in death.
Oisín was a keen and talented all round sportsman. He was a member of St Michael’s Cross Country team, St Michael’s Dalton team, Enniskillen Athletic Soccer Club and Belcoo GAC U14 team. We invite all Oisín’s team mates from all the teams he played for or against to wear their club colours on the day as a celebration of the broad range of young people Oisín met in his beloved sports. Oisín also loved banter and as those who knew him will testify, had a mischievous sense of fun, we would like this day to be one of banter and fun for the young people, so please know that you are all very welcome, wherever you knew Oisín from.
His family miss Oisín terribly, as do all his friends. Oisín’s mum and dad, Sharon and Nigel, say “Words cannot convey how much Oisín is loved by us or how we feel about his death. It has been the worst 12 weeks of our lives but filled with so many happy memories among the tears. The love and support that we have received from the wider community and beyond has been astounding. We thank you all and ask you to support this special event in Oisín’s memory.”
