Minor Final
Easkey 5-12 Ballymote 3-6

Easkey Minors collected their second Division 2 League title in three years, defeating Ballymote Round Towers last Friday evening in Scarden.
Ballymote, with the aid of a slight breeze opened the scoring with a point, but Easkey responded with a goal from Joe McHugh whose point attempt deceived their goalie and crept under the Ballymote crossbar. That gave Easkey the momentum and further scores from McHugh and Hayden Gilroy extended Easkeys lead despite Ballymote getting a three pointed midway through the half. With half time approaching Rory McHugh whose scintillating runs opened up the Ballymote rear-guard all evening, scored another goal for us which left 7 points in it at the half-time break.
The second half started evenly enough until our centre back was harshly sent off, but in fairness to our lads it only added to their determination and they pushed on to victory with three goals, two converted penalties from Joe McHugh after he was fouled on both occasions, and a screamer from Emmett Brennan which left Ballymote with a mountain to climb. In fairness to them, they kept plugging away and goaled twice themselves in the closing minutes, but victory was already assured for this evenly balanced Easkey side.
There were stand-out performances all over the field for us, and it would be unfair to mention individuals as every lad played their part in what was a great team effort. Congrats and best of luck to all the lads doing exams next week, and then for the minor championship in the summer.
