Sligo GAA offers its condolences to the Galvin family on the occasion of the untimely and tragic death of Michael, former Senior inter-county footballer and former Senior hurling team manager.

Mick Galvin made an enormous contribution to the GAA as a player, mentor and manager. Among his achievements, he lined out with Sligo Senior football teams in 1991 and 1992. In 1996 he won a Senior County football medal with St.Mary’s. In hurling Craobh Rua completed the treble in 1994 when they again became Senior Champions with Mick playing in all three finals.

As a manager he directed the Sligo Senior hurling team to their first ever Nicky Rackard Cup win in 2008. He also played and acted as mentor to the Calraigh Naomh Iosef hurling teams and in more recent times he managed Glencar-Manor to win their first ever Leitrim hurling titles.

His father, Paddy received the GAA President’s award in 2012 and is the highly respected secretary of the Countess Markievicz Park Committee.

Michael was a serving member of An Garda Siochána and held the rank of Sergeant in Ballyshannon Garda Station.

We extend our deepest sympathy to his wife Colette and his children, Conor, Kate and Emma. Also in our thoughts at this sad time are his father Paddy; his sisters Helen, Patricia and Gerardine and his brothers Peter and John. We also commiserate with his professional and sporting colleagues.

Ar dheis lámh Dé go raibh a Anam uasal dilís.
