SLIGO GAA 2ND ANNUAL BLACK & WHITE RACE DAY

After the hectic activity of the past month Sligo GAA supporters have an opportunity to relax and reflect on the season to date and discuss the upcoming Club Championships at Cleveragh Racecourse on Tuesday evening 18th August when the Annual Race Day takes place.

Patrons will be delighted to hear that the Race Day package has been reduced this year to €20 per person. The package includes entry to the Races (normally €15), a free Race Card (normally €3), a free entry to the Race Day Prize Draw with €500 in Prizes and entry to the Post Race BBQ in Kennedy’s Bar.The GAA ticket will also provide entry to the Patrons Marquee where Bar and Tote facilities will be available as well as a Tipster, Traditional music and Spot prizes.

Of course, the day itself is themed Black & White in keeping with the County colours and it’s hoped all attending will dress for the occasion. The organisers have again promised the following events with generous prizes

Best Dressed Lady

Best Dressed Gent

Best Dressed Couple

The Sligo Race committee have generously invited both our Minor and Senior panels as their Guests for the evening to acknowledge their efforts over the past few months and this will add some further colour to the event.

Peter Greene, Chairman of the Sligo GAA Race Day committee also advises that the committee have introduced a new novel event for this year’s Race Day in the form of a 1 mile Race over the course. The organisers are asking each Club in the County to nominate one runner dressed appropriately in their Club colours to take on the 1 mile distance. The Race will finish in front of the main stand and will take place after the 3rd Race on the Card and will have an attractive prize for the victor. So who will be the fastest GAA miler in Sligo – come along and support your nominee!

Club nominations should be forwarded to Eamonn McMunn Co. Administrator by Friday 14th August.

Once the racing is over, patrons can retire to Kennedy’s bar where the Quinn family will provide a BBQ on the premises and a good night’s entertainment, hopefully as well as the inaugural event last year.

Tickets for the event are available from any member of the Executive or Finance committee or directly from Eamonn McMunn, County Board Administrator – Phone 087 052 4574.
