Jobseekers Community Sports Coach Training Course

 

Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership is facilitating a Community Sports Coach Training Course for Jobseekers in County Sligo commencing at the end of September 2015.

 

Aims and Objectives

 

Aim:

Delivery of specialised sports related training and education coaching course for jobseekers

 

Objective:

 

·         This programme is focused on successfully assisting unemployed people to gain qualifications and training in sports coaching thereby providing opportunities for involvement as coaches, physical activity leaders etc in their communities through subsequent employment/ or volunteering opportunities.

 

·         It will provide the participants with practical and theoretical sport-related skills and help them find relevant work experience in their local community.

 

·         This course will provide a platform for further education opportunities in the sports sector.

 

·         The programme will contribute to the promotion of both physical health and wellbeing amongst course participants and in the wider community through the subsequent employment and/or volunteering work carried out by participants.

 

 

 

Programme Outline:

 

Strand 1                               Sports Coaching Training

Sports coaching qualifications in F.A.I Soccer Kickstart 1, GAA-Foundation Award and Athletics Leader will be facilitated.

·         Sports coach training in Coaching Young People, First Aid, Code of Ethics, Active Leadership and Disability Inclusion Training.

·         Classroom modules on Career Planning, CV writing, and Job Preparation Skills.

·         Job Placement in Sports Coaching

 

Strand 2                               Physical Activity Training

A range of training opportunities will be provided in Coaching Young People, First Aid, Code of Ethics, Active Leadership and Disability Inclusion Training.

Strand 3               Career Planning (Level 4 Qualification opportunity)

This will include Job Readiness Skills Development and Personal Development

 

Course will focus on CV writing, job seeking skills, IT skills, office skills, telephone skills, etc 

Course will support the trainees to identify individual progression routes in terms of employment/self-employment, further education and training, coaching and volunteering, etc. Other aspects of personal development will include confidence-building, leadership and language skills etc

 

Strand 4               Job Placement Experience

A job placement programme (unpaid) will form an important component of the course structure. The work experience element will primarily be based in the primary school setting, with participants being supported mentored by experienced sports coaches. Involvement in a community sports event will also form part of the work placement.  

 

Course Structure:

·         The course will take place over 14 weeks, 2 days per week commencing at end of September 2015.

·         The course will be hosted on either Tuesday/Wednesday or Wednesday/ Thursday ( to be confirmed shortly) of each week. The course duration each day will be from 9.30am to 5pm.

·         The course location will be at a Sligo Town venue

·         Maximum of 12 participants per course.

 

Who can Apply :

·         The course is open to all unemployed people with an interest in sport/ sports coaching.

·         Applicants must be in receipt of a social welfare payment

·         Participation on this course will not affect your social welfare payment

As there are a maximum of 12 places on this course shortlisting may apply and an informal interview will take place as part of the course recruitment process.

 

Course participants will have to undergo Garda Vetting.
