There was no joy for the minor team in the A Championship final on Friday night when they were defeated by St. Mary's on a score of 4-9 to 2-3.St. Mary's got off to a dream start when Nathan Rooney blasted the ball to the back of the net.Patrick O'Connor got Farnan's first point of the match and Kieran Devaney scored a goal to leave the sides level at 1-1 each. Both sides competed well and indeed we had chances to go ahead in the match but it was St. Mary's who capitalised and got two goals before half time to lead 3-3 to 1-1 at the break.
St. Mary's got the opening score of the second half and despite our best efforts we could not get a foothold in the game.Despite losing by 12 points St. Farnan's will be disappointed not to have made more of the possession they had in the game.On a more positive note the team can be very proud of their achievements in the Championship as over half the panel of players are under 16. The future should be very bright for this group.
Sincere thanks to their manager Ciaran O'Connor who put in a tremendous effort with the team and to Sean Weir and Tommy Joe Cawley who helped him. Thanks to Gerry Beglane and staff of The Flying Horse for providing refreshments after the match.

The intermediate team defeated St. Michael`s in the relegation play off on Sunday last in Collooney. The final score was St. Farnan`s 3-10, St. Michael`s 1-12.
This was a very competitive game as both teams battled hard to retain intermediate status.St.Farnan's got the first score with a point from a free by Ciaran O'Connor. St.Michael's scored the next three points, two  from P. Mc Tiernan and one from James Mackey. St. Farnans got the next four points before St. Michael's added two. St.Farnans were given the opportunity to go ahead before the break when James Hynes was fouled inside the square and a penalty ensued which Ciaran O' Connor scored. The half time score read St. Farnans 1-6, St. Michael's 0-5.St.Michael's lost D. Harte to injury before the break.
St. Michael's got the first two points after the break. Ciaran got one back from a free.St.Michael's would add three more before Finian and substitute Shane Neary got a point each.St.Michael's player P.Mc Tiernan had to leave the field of play due to injury and this was a severe blow as he had been very effective for the side.James Hynes got a second goal for St. Farnans before St. Michael's got a penalty when Alan Taaffe was fouled.James Mackey shot the ball into the net to leave the score 2-9 to 1-11.James Hynes got his second goal and dashed St.Michael's hopes of a comeback. They added another point from a free by Alan Taaffe. Finnian Cawley got the last point of the match.Martin Mulligan was very effective for St. Farnan`s at midfield and worked tirelessly  as did Michael Mc Gowan and Gareth Ryan.St. Farnans had survived the relegation battle.
