Surf and Turf Run is back for more
Following
on from last year’s hugely successful event, Enniscrone is getting ready to
host what is fast becoming the most enjoyable athletics event in the region.
The
second annual Enniscrone Surf and Turf Fun Run will take place on Saturday,
October 24th (the October Bank Holiday weekend) at 12 noon.
The
run, hosted by the Enniscrone/Kilglass GAA club, will give competitors the
opportunity to take in all that is good about Enniscrone, and test themselves
in a fun and beautifully scenic environment. Our course, which contains a
number of fun and unique obstacles, covers five kilometres, with the youths
(U16s) course slightly altered to three kilometres.
Those
taking part will battle it out for prizes worth €600, kindly sponsored by
Mattie Coleman of Coleman Electronics Ltd.
In
a change from last year’s format, this year will be an individual event with
prizes across our three sections – men’s, ladies and youths. The overall winner
will also take home the John P. Hannon Memorial Cup.
Entry fees
Adults - €20
Youths - €10 (14-16 years of age)
Registration forms can be downloaded
from our club website, www.enniscronekilglassgaa.com or from our Facebook page
(EnniscroneKilglass GAA). Forms will also be available on the morning of the
event.
Registration will take place on the
morning of the event in the Enniscrone/Kilglass GAA clubhouse from 10.00am to
11.45am.
The
route is set in the scenic Quigabar area, with the starting and finishing point
at the Enniscrone/Kilglass GAA club grounds. The loop route brings competitors down
1 kilometre of public road, followed by 1 kilometre of shoreline and then through
3 kilometres of demanding cross country terrain, which will include several obstacles,
big and small!
Following
the run, everyone will receive refreshments at the clubhouse, followed by the
presentation of prizes. Shower and changing room facilities will also be
available.
This
course will test all our competitors and entertain our spectators, as
participants attempt to negotiate a landscape that will test their wits. Above
all, though, fun will be at the centre of our event with each runner guaranteed
a rewarding afternoon, and a great start to your bank holiday weekend.
