International Men's Health Week

International Men's Health Week will run from Monday 13th to Sunday 19th June 2016. The week called ‘Men United for Health and Wellbeing’ is supported by Health Promotion and Improvement, Health and Wellbeing Division, HSE and is coordinated by the Men’s Health Forum in Ireland.

Research shows that men in Ireland experience a disproportionate burden of ill-health and die too young.

  *   Men in Ireland have a higher death rate than women for all of the leading causes of death.

  *   Poor lifestyles are responsible for a high proportion of chronic diseases.

  *   Late presentation to health services leads to a large number of problems being more difficult to treat

Dr. Cate Hartigan, Head of Health Promotion and Improvement,  Health and Wellbeing Division commented: ‘Much can be and indeed is being done to improve this situation.  Any action that encourages men and boys to lead a healthier lifestyle, to be aware of their health and to seek early detection and treatment for health issues is very welcome.’

‘Men’s Health Week provides an opportunity to heighten awareness of preventable health problems for men of all ages. Everyone can support and celebrate Men’s Health Week 2016.’
