It was a weekend to remember for the Benbulben Gaels U14 hurlers, who represented the club with distinction at the Féile na nGael 2016 in Tipperary. While there were no medals won, there were lots of good memories and the lads acquitted themselves admirably in their four games. They were superbly looked after by host club Arravale Rovers in Tipperary town and the traveling panel of 18 players, several of whom are still U12, will have learned a lot from the Féile experience. Well done to fellow Sligo representatives Easkey/St Farnan’s on reaching the quarter-finals of their competition. Particularly thanks go to our own team mentors, especially Aidan O’Reilly for Carol McGowan for the preparatory work they behind the scenes in the run-up to the weekend.

The senior men’s footballers beat Geevagh by 1-17 to 1-13 in Division 2 on Saturday evening to stay firmly in the promotion hunt. We were four points down at half-time but a big work-rate in the second half turned the contest around. The last regulation league game against leaders Bunninadden is scheduled for mid-July. The top two teams in Division 2 qualify for the league final. Only the winners will be promoted this year. Before the league reaches its climax, the team continue their Benson Cup campaign this Sunday with a home match against St John’s. Throw-in: 12pm.

The junior footballers were awarded a walkover against Coolaney/Mullinabreena in Division 4 last Friday. We travel to play Castleconnor this Saturday at 4:30pm.

Our minor footballers resume their Division 3 league campaign on Friday evening with a home match against Enniscronne/Kilglass at 7pm.

Our U14 girls footballers had two excellent wins against St Mary’s and Tourlestrane last week to go top of the league table. They beat St Mary’s by 8-5 to 4-6, recovering well from a shaky start to produce another fine footballing display.

Our U8 & U10 footballers had a ball at last Wednesday's blitz with St John's in Cleveragh. Our thanks to the St John's club for hosting - and to all the parents and guardians for coming along to support. We host St Mary’s in another midweek blitz this Wednesday evening (22nd) at 7pm in Oxfield. All players are asked assemble at 6:45pm.

The Benbulben Gaels U12 hurlers recorded a 0-8 to 0-1 win in the league last Tuesday evening against Tourlestrane at Oxfield. The result moves us up to third in the table, just one point behind the leaders. Next up: We are away to Easkey/St Farnan's on June 28th. Throw-in: 7pm

Tickets are now on sale for the club’s new Super Lotto Draw, which starts in July. This is an important fundraiser for the club and your support would be appreciated. Tickets are available from any club officer.
