Commiserations to our senior county footballers Neil Ewing, Seán Power and Cian Lally on Sligo’s championship exit last weekend. The defeat to Clare means the club programme now resumes apace. Our senior men’s team play a decisive Division 2 league match this Sunday against promotion rivals Bunninadden. We need a win to be draw to be sure of reaching the league play-off. Throw-in on Sunday is 12pm. The senior club championship fixture (dates and times) for 2016 schedule is available to view on the club’s Facebook page this week. The team wishes the multi-tasking Paddy Gormley a speedy recovery following his hand injury in a challenge game at the weekend. Paddy’s texting may be a bit slower than usual for a few weeks!

The boys minor footballers bowed out of the Division 3 league play-offs last Thursday evening against Geevagh in Oxfield. With a number of players unavailable, our makeshift team put in a determined display but Geevagh were deserving winners. Our girls minor footballers begin their A Championship campaign this Wednesday (20th) with a group match against St Nathy’s at 7pm.

We wish club players Oisín O’Reilly and Jack Moran every success in their basketball exploits in the coming weeks. Both teenagers are representing Ireland at upcoming underage European basketball championships. We’d like to congratulate Rosses Point’s Seán Flanagan, who won golf’s North of Ireland Amateur Championship at Royal Portrush last Friday - a huge achievement for the twenty-year-old.

Well done to club player Jamie Gillen who was part of the Sligo U21 hurling team which contested the All-Ireland ‘C’ Championship semi-final against Fermanagh last Friday. The Erne men were narrow winners by 2-13 to 1-12 but it was good to see Jamie (a noted footballer)  illustrating his hurling skills on the intercounty stage.

Tuesday is a big day for the Benbulben Gaels U12 hurlers as they take on Naomh Eoin in the Division 1 A final at Markievicz Park at Markievicz Park. Throw-in: 6:45pm. Our U16 hurlers play Easkey/St Farnan’s in the championship next Monday 25th in Oxfield at 7pm.

Our Kids v Parents fun match, to mark the summer break for the club’s GAA nursery, was a big success last Saturday morning. Thanks to everybody who came along and either helped or took part. As regards the standard of football, let’s just say that the grown-ups need a lot of work!  U6, U8 and U10 training on Saturday mornings will resume at the end of August.

Good luck to all our young footballers who are participating in the Kellogg’s Cúl Camp at Oxfield this week.

Please return any outstanding tickets for the club’s new super lotto draw to treasurer Mary Carway as the first of the 2016/17 draws will take place at the end of this month.

Congrats to Michael Kilcoyne who won our Last Man Standing Euro 2016 competition and the €200 prize. Our Championship Last Man Standing still has a number of contenders. See our Facebook page for the leaderboard and latest info.
