The Geevagh ladies failed in their attempt
to make it three senior championships in a row when they lost to out to St
Nathy’s in an absolutely absorbing final played in Markievicz Park on Saturday
evening last. Geevagh went in to an early lead and were well in contention as
the game entered its final quarter. The south Sligo club however was determined
to retain the title they last held in 2013 and finished stronger to earn a
memorable and well deserved victory. The Geevagh girls as always performed
heroically and gave their loyal followers lots to be proud about. Many thanks
to Captain Nicola Brehony and her team as well as manager David Gaffney and
selector Sean Breheny for the manner in which they have represented the club in
victory and defeat throughout the season.
Attention now turns to David O’Reilly and his
team as they prepare for the Intermediate Championship final with St Malaise
Gaels in a couple of weeks’ time. Going in as underdogs, our lads will need all
the support we can muster as they attempt to make an early return to the senior
grade.
The club appreciates all the flags and
bunting which currently adorns the parish. Reaching the adult final is a cause
for celebration and all our players are grateful for this acknowledgement
of their efforts.
