Under 12 Girls
Our under 12
girls suffered their first defeat of the year last Thursday when they lost to
CT Gaels in the League semi-final. Despite a good start which saw our girls
lead 02-00 at the end of the first quarter, the home side began to exert
pressure on our defence through the middle quarters and built up a substantial
lead. To their credit, the girls never gave up and came back into contention at
the start of the final quarter and cut the lead to four points. However CT
regrouped and ran out comfortable winners in the end. It was a disappointing
end to a very good league for the under 12s, but they can be extremely proud of
their achievements. Orna Murphy, Eva White, Alana Wilson and Clodagh Martyn
were once again on the scoresheet, while Lisa Kilfeather, Mary-Kate McPartland
and Nessa O’ Sullivan were brilliant in defence. Others to impress were Aoife
Gormley, Luna Simeoni, Luisa Mooney and Orlaith Beirne. They now have a Shield
final to look forward to, when they play Shamrock Gaels at 1.05pm on Sat. June
3rd in Markievicz Park.
Hurling
U10 and u12 hurling training continues in Ransboro pitch on Saturday mornings. U12s meet at 10.45, and the
U10s start at 11.00am. Training finishes at 12.00.
The next U12 match is this evening (Tuesday) at
home to Tubbercurry.
U10 fixtures will be out soon, and the players are looking
forward to competing at this level.
Under 14 Boys
Our u-14 boys played their fifth league game last Friday
night against a physically superior St John’s side. The first half was a close
affair with scores from Cormac Murphy, Conor Keane and Mark McDaniel leaving us
with a single point deficit at the break.
St John’s however were on the scoreboard early
in the second half and their powerful running from midfield proved difficult
for us to contain. Owen McKirdy was again outstanding in defence, Ross Doherty
provided heroics in goal and Naoise Brennan never shirked his task against
formidable opponents. Andrew Lynch, Ryan Young and Mark McDaniel all
contributed to the second half scoreboard with Cathal Moraghan and Jarlath
Herbert unlucky with their efforts.
Next up is a
home game against Shamrock Gaels on Friday evening.
Under 16 Boys
Our under 16s boys played Curry in round 5 of the league in
Ransboro on 15 May. We trailed at half time on a scoreline of 0.04 to 2.04, our
scores coming from Donagh Flynn, Tristan Gilligan and Keelan Harte. Aided by
the breeze our boys put in a fine second half performance and had levelled
matters with five minutes remaining. The game could have gone either way at
this stage with Lee Wilson’s late effort for a goal just clearing the cross
bar. There were fine performances from Orin Mitchell, Rory McVeigh and Tristan
Gilligan in defence, Lee Wilson and Fiachra Staunton in mid field and Donagh
Flynn, Keelan Harte and Sam McDermott in attack. Team squad and scorers were as
follows: Cian Connell, Orin Mitchell, Jack Cawley, Tristan Gilligan(0.1), Jack
Molloy, Fiachra Staunton, Lee Wilson(0.6), Donagh Flynn(0.1), Keelan Harte (0.6),
Josh Gilligan, Ryan Young, Sam Mc Dermott(0.1), Stephen Lynch, Jim Henehan,
Liam Gilligan, Cormac Murphy. Next game is away to Ballymote/
Bunninadden on Thursday 25 May at 7 pm.
Under 14 Girls
The under 14
girls played host to Eoghan Rua last Tuesday (16th). Despite their
best efforts they were to lose out on a score of 7-08 to 2-11. As the score
suggests it was the concession of goals, in addition to some missed chances at
the other end that was to prove costly. The girls were well in contention in
the first half with 1-01 from both Beibhinn Harte and Shona Dalton, and points
from Cliodhna O’ Sullivan (0-02) and Hannah Burrows (0-01) leaving them
trailing by three points 4-02 to 2-05. The visitors began to make their
physical superiority count as the second half progressed, and our girls could
only add on six points from Shona, Amy Deering and Hannah Burrows. On a tough
evening for the girls there were fine performances from the O’ Sullivan
sisters, Cliodhna and Nessa, Beibhinn Harte, Amy Hampson, Keri Mitchell, Shona
Dalton and Amy Deerimg. Their next match is an away tie against Ballisodare on
Tuesday 30th. Team; Ciara
Lindsay, Amy Hampson, Nessa O’ Sullivan, Grace Molloy, Cliodhna Davitt,
Beibhinn Harte, Cliodhna O’ Sullivan, Emma O’ Loughlin, Shona Dalton, Keri
Mithcell, Hannah Burrows, Enya Hughes. Subs; Aoife Gormley, Holly Gilligan, Amy
Deering.
Junior League
Our junior
team made it two wins in a row when they defeated St. Farnan’s in Ransboro Pk. on
Saturday evening. Following on from their 4-08 to 2-08 victory over Castleconnor
the previous week, they continued their good run of form and ran up an
impressive tally of 3-18 while keeping their opponents to 2-07.
Skills Competition
Congrats to
Mark McDaniel who represented the club at the Skills Competition in Scarden
last week. Mark performed really well and finished a very creditable fourth.
Well done Mark.
Junior Ladies
Our junior
ladies recorded their first win on Sunday when they defeated St. Molaise Gaels
by 5-17 to 0-11 in Grange. It was a match that the girls dominated from the
start, yet the half-time score didn’t reflect this as they only led by 1-07 to
0-07. The home side began the second half with increased intensity and within
three minutes had wiped out the lead. However Coolera-Strandhill settled and a
fourth Attracta Halloran point was quickly followed by a goal from Laura Ann
Laffey, before Ciara Healy scored her second goal, to settle the team. From
then on the result was never in doubt, and a well deserved maiden win was
achieved. In a whole team effort, Ruth Goodwin, Laura Ann Laffey, Attracta
Halloran, Éilis Callaghan and Jessica Halloran excelled, while in defence
Jacqui Mulligan led by example and was well supported by Caoimhe O’ Sullivan,
Ciara McCormack and Kaela Kerrigan. The next match is against Curry tomorrow
(Wednesday). Team; Sarah Lindsay, Ciara McCormack, Kaela Kerrigan, Caoimhe O’
Sullivan (Aislinn Doggett), Jacqui Mulligan (0-03), Claire Stenson (Cara
Gilligan), Ruth Goodwin (0-01) (Claire Stenson), Mary Stenson (0-02), Éilis
Callaghan (0-01), Laura-Ann Laffey (1-01), Attracta Halloran (1-08), Ciara
Healy (Lauren McGarry) (2-01), Jessica Halloran (1-01)
