U-16 Championship Result:
Coolaney/Mullinabreena 2-25 Owenmore Gaels 3-14
The U-16 lads put in a great effort in a high
scoring game at the new Nace O'Dowd pitch last Monday.
Our opposition had won the B league Shield this
year while we competed at C level therefore on paper we went there as big
underdogs.
We lived up to that tag in a slow opening, Coolaney racing into a 5 point lead.
We slowly got to grips with the opposition and began to impact the scoreboard.
We went in 0-13 0-7 down at the break.
The second half proved to be a very open exciting half. The teams traded scores
with Coolaney maintaining their cushion. When sub Jamie Feeney struck our first
goal we gained momentum and threatened a comeback. Ciaran Mcpartland followed
up with another soon after and suddenly the gap was down to 3 with 10 to
play.
Unfortunately Coolaney would respond with two goals to take control again. Both
teams traded more scores but Coolaney deservedly took the spoils in the end.
However the work rate and commitment of our lads was impressive.
We were best served by Gavin McGrath at the back, Paul Mahon in the middle and
Ciaran Mcpartland up top. Our player of the match Luke lougheed who made
several top drawer saves.
We play again next Monday at home to Calry/St. Josephs.
Team: Luke Lougheed, Gavin
McGrath, Liam Gilligan, Oisin Harte, Joe Walsh, Jack Branley, Paul Mahon (0-2),
Mark Walsh (c), Rhys Willis (0-2), Ciaran Mcpartland (2-6), Luke Middleton
(0-2), Gary McGrath (0-1) (Jamie Feeney (1-0)), Ben Foley (0-1)
The U14 Boys beat Tubbercurry/Cloonacool on a
scoreline of 2-6 to 5-15 last Friday evening. Good win lads, well done players
and mentors, keep it up!
The minor girls recorded a very impressive last
weekend over shamrock Gaels with a score line of 4 13 to 1-13. This puts the
girls into a final on Aug 27 where they will meet shamrock Gaels again in the
final. Super stuff girls!
Our U16 girls started the C'chip last Thursday
evening with a hard fought draw away to Eastern Harps. In a tight game, we were
4pts down entering the final few minutes but a series of scores from frees gave
us a deserved draw. We play Shamrock Gaels next Tuesday evening in another away
match before hosting Eoghan Rua on Thursday evening. The girls showed great
spirit this evening and despite picking up a few injuries, we look forward to
next weeks matches still in the hunt for silverware.Well done to the girls and
management.
