We congratulate the Sligo ladies team on reaching the TG4 All-Ireland Intermediate football semi-finals after a 3-8 to 1-6 win over Roscommon in last Sunday’s quarter-final in Carrick-on-Shannon. Three DRP players, Rachel Monaghan, Michelle McNamara and Sinéad Regan were part of the panel, while Aisling Ewing is also a member of the management team. Sligo ladies play Tyrone in the All-Ireland semi on September 2nd. Venue and time to be confirmed.

Our girls U12 footballers play Tourlestrane this Friday evening in the county ‘A’ championship semi-final at 7pm. Best of luck to the players and management team: Frank Moylan & Trevor Ferguson.

The boys U12 footballers enjoyed a memorable day trip to Croke Park last Sunday to watch the Mayo-Kerry All-Ireland semi-final. Our thanks to the coaches and parents who helped supervise on the day. The Division 1 team play Ballymote Bunninadden in the U12 shield final on Tuesday evening in Markievicz Park at 6:15pm.  Our Division 3 side have a play-off with St Mary’s on Wednesday evening. Good luck to both teams.

There was bitter disappointment for the senior men’s footballers last Saturday evening. A 1-16 to 0-16 defeat against Coolaney/Mullinabreena means we can’t make the knockout stages of the Belfry senior football championship. It was a spirited display by the team and we had chances to win the game. The result means we now enter a championship relegation play-off in the coming weeks.

Our junior footballers beat Castleconnor by 4-15 to 2-2 in their opening match of the Lola Montez ‘B’ championship last Sunday in Oxfield.

There was plenty of good news last week. The Benbulben Gaels U12 hurlers lifted silverware on Tuesday evening at Markievicz Park thanks to a 11 points to 9 win over Tourlestrane in the 'B' cup final. Congrats to the players and management team of Declan O'Brien & Alan Tiernan.

The boys U16 footballers recorded a hard-earned victory over St Mary's at Oxfield on Monday evening in the championship. Trailing by five points early on, the team responded excellently outscoring their opponents 2-7 to 0-4 in the second period. Lee Cummins, Ben Kelly & Jack Connor scored the goals with all of the forwards contributing fine points.

A depleted U16 girls team were well beaten by Tourlestrane last Thursday evening in the championship and now face a make-or-break game against St Mary’s this Thursday evening in Kent Park. Throw-in: 7pm.

There was disappointment for our boys U14 footballers who were beaten by Ballymote/Bunninadden in the ‘A’ championship last Friday. The girls U14s play Calry/St Joseph’s at home this Monday evening at 7pm.

Benbulben Gaels U14 hurlers continue their championship campaign on Thursday evening with a home match against Castleconnor in Oxfield at 7pm.

After a short summer break, Saturday morning GAA nursery coaching for players U6-U10 resumes in Oxfield this Saturday (Aug 26th). U6 coaching starts at 9:45am with U8 & U10 at 10:30am. New players are always very welcome to come along.

Congratulations to former underage club member Charlie Slevin who was part of the Carrick-on-Shannon boys U10 team which won the National Community Games Gaelic football title in Abbotstown last Saturday There were several Rosses Point and Drumcliffe successes over the weekend with the Point’s girls and boys Pitch & Putt teams winning gold and silver respectively.  There was also sporting artist success with gold for Joe Campbell and Charlene Siriwardane in the Art & Modelling competitions while Desmond Gillen received a highly commended award. On the bike, Nicola Dunleavy won fabulous silver medal in the cycling. Well done to all our local competitors who represented their areas and county with distinction.

Congrats to all our club members who received the Leaving Certificate results last Wednesday. Special mention to our senior goalkeeper Ronan McCormack who, alongside his busy football commitments with the club, received the highest marks of any student in Summerhill College this year.

The club’s monthly meeting for August takes place next Monday 28th in Oxfield at 9pm.

We extend our condolences to Michelle Henry and the Henry family in Rosses Point following the death of Michelle’s mother Charlotte Coyle last week.
