Our Parish League continued on Friday evening and Saturday morning last with some brilliant matches  involving  both Boys and Girls. The 3rd round of fixtures is Saturday next with Girls games throwing in from 10.00am and the Boys in action at 11.15am.

Our MInor Boys took on Eastern Harps on Friday night last  in the A Championship semi final in Kesh. Missing a number of key Players our Boys nevertheless gave a fine account of themselves against an impressive  home squad. Harps emerged winners 0-19 to 0-09 but a very young Gaels squad gave an excellent account of themselves. Well done and thanks to the squad and Management team for their commitment all season.

On Saturday evening our senior men secured their place in the 2018 competition with a 2-14 to 1-11 win against neighbours Drumcliffe/Rosses Point in the championship relegation play off in Markievicz Park. Approaching half time and with our opponents ten points ahead having played some excellent football with the benefit of a strong breeze  it looked like another very disappointing evening for Gaels. However a late first period goal from Daragh Elliot brought some respite to the scoreboard and the interval deficit of 1-09 to 1-03 while not reflecting the total dominance of Drumcliffe/Rosses Point appeared to give Gaels something to build on for the second half. The first ten minutes of the second period  saw Drumcliffe/Rosses Point contain the increased pressure from Gaels as the sides swapped scores and it looked as if, despite playing against the strong breeze, that  Drumcliffe/Rosses Point would comfortably see the game to a conclusion. However the introduction of Eoin McHugh from the substitutes bench for his first competitive action since sustaining an injury in All Ireland qualifier action for Sligo  transformed the game. McHugh got on the ball at every opportunity and his long accurate passing allowed Gaels to finally breach an excellent DRP defence and created numerous scoring opportunities. With County Minor Luke Towey , Alan McLoughlin and Daragh Fallon also to the fore Gaels produced a brilliant last twenty minute period to overturn a six point deficit  and emerge winners by the same tally. Keelan Waters who had another fine game scored an opportunist 50th minute goal that was followed by a stream of points including excellent efforts from Alan McLoughlin, Cathal Herron and Daragh Fallon. That brings the competitive season for our senior squad to a conclusion. Thanks to Players, Management Team and support team for their commitment through a long season.

On Sunday at 12.00pm our U13 Boys opened their Feile campaign with a defeat away to Coolera/Strandhill. This Tuesday evening Sept 26th they play St Mary's in Kent Park  at 6.00pm.

This Wednesday evening our U9 and U11 Boys are at home to St Mary's in the CIty Leagues at 7.00pm.
