Junior Ladies Success
In their
first year back in the adult competitions since 2006, our junior ladies took to
the field in Markievicz Pk on Sept. 16th to play Curry in the championship
final. Leading 1-07 to 0-01 at half time, the girls had to weather a very
strong rally from a determined Curry side that narrowed the gap to just two
points before a Meadhbh Kenneally penalty settled the nerves. On full-time the
team of 2017 had emulated the team of 2006 with a 2-13 to 3-04 victory.
Congrats ladies and management. They now go on to represent Sligo in the
Connacht semi-final where they will face the Galway champions. Many thanks to
everyone who turned out to support the team, it was much appreciated.
Under 9 City League
Well done to our under 9 boys who made it two wins
from two in the City League with victory over St. Mary's.
Under 16 Girls
The under
16 girls finished their championship campaign with a comprehensive win over St.
Michael’s. Having started well, the girls ran up a very healthy 4-11 to 0-02
first half lead, the goals coming from Aislinn Doggett (2-00), Ellen Prior and Eva Schoen. Eva would
end up as top scorer with 1-06 to her name before the end. The second half saw
an increased intensity from the visitors, but the girls kept the scoreboard
ticking over and would eventually win 5-17 to 0-05. It was a nice way to end
the campaign, and just rewards for the efforts and progress made by the girls
all year. There were fine individual displays in a great team performance,
notably from Roisín Heneghan, Éilis Burke and Danika Kerrigan in attack, while
the defence was well led by Eimear Callaghan, Ellen Given, Holly Gilligan and
Caoimhe O’ Sullivan. Sarah Lindsay made the most of her move out of goals at
half time to score two well taken points. Team; Sarah Lindsay (0-02), Holly
Gilligan, Caoimhe O’ Sullivan, Ellen Given, Grace Molloy, Eimear Callaghan,
Gráinne Redmond, Cliodhna O’ Sullivan, Aislinn Doggett (2-01), Ellen Prior
(1-01), Éilis Burke (1-01), Roisín Heneghan (0-03), Amy Hampson (0-02), Eva
Schoen (1-06), Danika Kerrigan, Ruth Conlon Oates, Nadine Deering.
Under 13 Féile
Our u13
Feile team had their first outing against near neighbours St Marys on a perfect
evening for football on Tuesday in Ransboro. Coolera/Strandhill won the throw
in and were quickly off the mark with a Mark McDaniel point after fine link up
play with Luke McTernan. The Breeogue native was to add eight more points in a
fine individual display. Donnacha Beirne found the net and tagged on a point
before the break to leave the home side with the advantage at the break.
Ciaran
Langan goaled early in the first half as did Thomas Lee. Ben Cawley then popped
over a point and an upset looked on the cards for the home side. Ross Doherty
was easily man of the match with and outstanding display closely followed by
Rory Kinane and Jamie Walsh (who had earlier in the day helped Summerhill
College First Year hurling team to victory). Sergei Donahue and Jakub Krajluski
also caught the eye with fine performances However a couple of late goals by St
Marys was to prove our undoing and a final score of 3-12 to 7-04, in fading
light, gave bragging rights to the town side.

Minor Semi-Final
Our minor boys play St. Farnan’s in the championship semi
final on Friday evening in Sligo Centre of Excellence, Scarden. Throw-in is at
7.15. We wish Gary, Conor and the boys well. They would appreciate your
support.
Under 14 Girls
The under 14 girls play St. Nathy’s in the championship
final on Saturday (Sept 30th) in Kent Park. Throw-in is at 1.30.
Having had a slow start to the year with some indifferent results in the
league, the girls have gone on an unbeaten run of late and head into this final
undefeated in the championship. They face a St. Nathy’s team that is also
undefeated so a tight affair is in prospect. All support would be most welcome.
