St Joseph’s School Ballytivnan, Sligo pupils play for Connacht
GAA in Croke Park
Pupils from Sligo’s St
Josephs School took part in the M. Donnelly GAA “Football for ALL”
Interprovincial Finals on Tuesday, September 26th in Croke
Park. This is the second year that these games have been held in Croke
Park. Last year St Josephs School Ballytivnan, were the
sole representatives on the
Connacht GAA Boys and Girls teams. Over one hundred and forty-four players from
all four Provinces took part in this years tournament which is a joint
initiative between the National GAA for ALL Committee in collaboration with the
Irish Special Schools Sports Council (ISSSC). St Joseph’s School is part of the
Northwest Branch of the ISSSC and their players were also joined on the
Connacht Team by players from St Antony’s, Castlebar, St Dympna’s, Ballina and
St Bernadette’s, Letterkenny.
The Chairperson of the
Connacht GAA Games for All Committee, Denis O’Boyle, expressed his gratitude to
the pupils, their parents and staff of St Josephs in representing Connacht GAA
in Croke Park. He acknowledged the wonderful involvrement and encouragement
from the school Principal, Carmel Wynne. He thanked Connacht GAA Council for
their ongoing support. He also complimented Co Sligo GAA and its Games Manager,
Liam Og Gormly together with Sligo Game for All Chairperson, Tim Hynes, in
preparing the teams for the Interprovincial Finals at the Sligo Centre of
Excellence..
Liam
Og Gormley, Tim Hynes, Gerry Tuohy and Brian Maguire were all involved in the
coaching of the St Josephs’s boys and
girls in the skills of Gaelic Football and accompanied them to Croke Park. They
also assisted in the management of the Connacht Boys and Girls teams in what
was a wonderful and most enjoyable day of Gaelic Football and a very proud day
for all the players from St Josephs School who represented Connacht GAA in
Croke Park.
