To all Sligo National Schools
I write to you on behalf of the Scór Committee of Sligo GAA
County Board.
Scór is the cultural showpiece of the GAA involving
competitions in Set Dancing, Figure Dancing, Traditional Music,
Recitation/Storytelling, Ballad Group, Solo Singing and Novelty Act/Short
Drama.
You may be aware of Scór na bPaistaí in operation in other
counties and may have indeed been involved in organising it in a previous
school.
The Scór Committee wish to run a Scór na bPaistaí
competition this year in order to foster interest with Scór and build upon the
many talents our young people have within the County. The competition will be held on November 12th in Rathcormac Hall
at 3pm.
I understand the pressures of school life however many of
our schools are teaching some of the above disciplines and it would be a great
showpiece for your school to get involved. Every participant will be treated as
a winner and there is no further progression beyond the county final at Scór na
bPaistaí.
I would appreciate if you could contact me by the 26th of October by email (irishculturalofficer.sligo@gaa.ie)
or text (086-3357182) saying if your school
is interested or not in participating if you have not done so already.
On Thursday 26th of October the President of the
GAA and the Scór National Chairman will be in Sligo to launch our activities
for 2017/18. More details will be posted on the Sligo GAA website and you are
most welcome to attend.
This is Sligo’s first attempt at hosting this competition and
we would encourage as many of you to participate in some of the competitions.
If you have any questions about Scór please contact Catherine or me,
alternatively there is more information at www.gaa.ie/the-gaa/cultur-agus-gaeilge/scor
Many thanks for your continued commitment to the GAA and we
look forward to working with you.
Yours in sport,
Keith Henry
Irish & Cultural Officer
