Our U10 girls were delighted to get invited to play in the PJ Gillen Blitz Tournament hosted by St Molaise on Saturday. The girls had 3 games against the hosts, Aodh Ruadh and St Farnan’s, and it was their first experience of an event run on the LGFA basis including the hooter for signalling the end of the halves.  Well done to St Molaise for organising the tournament on the weekend of the Ladies All-Ireland finals and adding to the excitement of the occasion for all the girls present.   Many of our Club Members were in Croke Park on Sunday for a fantastic day out.   While a pity Sligo did not make the Intermediate final, it was brilliant to be there and of course being part of a record attendance.

On the playing front, Championships at all age groups are coming down to the wire.   The U14 Boys will carrying our hopes this Friday when they play Shamrock Gaels.   The throw-in is at 7pm in the Scarden, and come to support them.   The Minor lads were due to play their final this Friday as well but instead this match has been deferred to 28th.    The Minor Girls will play in the A2 final this Thursday in St Farnons and throw-in is at 6pm.   This is a tremendous bunch of girls and we wish them well.

The U13 boys Feile team beat Eastern Harps on a scoreline of 8-11 to 4-12 in their first outing of the Group stages.  A dominant 1st half display by St Mary's laid the foundations for a big lead at half time, and in fairness to the young Eastern Harps side, they were the better team in an excellent second half.

The U16 girls played their final A championship group game in Kent Park last Thursday night against Drumcliffe/ Rosses Point. Facing a strong wind in the first half, the girls trailed by 3-4 to 1-4 at the break. In the second half they gained the upper hand and won by 4 points. They now await the winners of a play-off between Calry & Eoghan Rua. Our Senior Ladies play there next Championship game Sunday morning when they have a tricky fixture away to St Michaels, throw-in at 10am.

What a tremendous 24 hour relay event “St Marys Community on the Move” turned out to be.   It worked so well and particularly impressive were all the ladies who trained so diligently for their 2 hours running, many who never did anything like this before.    Thanks to the many people involved whether doing the hard yards participating or helping in the organisation.   The day included a highly successful family day and a social that evening in the Clubhouse.
