In Cloonacool on Sunday the pitch was in perfect condition however there was a strong breeze from the clubhouse end into the far end. A breeze even in these defensive times worth 4 or 5 points. Johns played with the advantage in the first half but took a while to get to grips with it. After 15 minutes the sides were level 0-2 a piece. Johns had missed one or two frees at this point and were not pushing up on the Enniscrone kickout which was a strange move considering the breeze into keeper Regans face.
In the last 10 minutes they stretched the lead out to 4 but Enniscrone fought back with two points just before the break from Hargadon and Gordon leaving the halftime score 0-6 v 0-4.

Johns scored a point directly from the throw in. With Paul McNamara and Charlie Harrison along with Conor Greene carrying a lot of ball Enniscrone found it hard to break down the town side. Donal Mullaney at midfield for westerners had a big part to play winning kickouts, driving forward with the ball and managing to score a point also. In the 17th minute Johns pushed two in front but that was their last score. In the next 5 minutes points from Moyles, Hargadon and Mullaney put Enniscrone in front for the first time with 7 to play. At this point Murphy received a straight red, which was doubly damaging to his team as Harrison was on the charge towards the goals. However there was no doubt it was a red.

With the wind on their backs Enniscrone showed good composure to hold the ball but Nealon broke through and the Johns keeper McDonagh made an excellent one handed save to keep his team in it. Enniscrone held their nerver with Mulrooney, the 2 x Mullaneys and Michael Moyles showing up well. For the losers, Clerkin, Paul McNamara, Brian McGowan and Conor Greene were best
