JP Duffy

Pat Spellman

Paddy Joe Doohan

______________________________________________________

JP Duffy of the Curry club in the words of his club “was an extremely special member, an incredible manager and a much loved father, husband and friend”. The whole community of Curry and the wider Sligo GAA community were shocked when news of his passing came through. JP had been manager of the Curry ladies and men’s teams over the last number of years. Sligo GAA would like to sympathise with Yvonne, Aoife, Patrick and Éanna and all of the Duffy family at this time.

Pat Spellman of the Bunninadden club was through and through Bunninnadden. No one who went to Bunninadden did not get to meet Pat. In the club’s words “To our club and community he is a huge loss to and an air of sadness hangs over Bunninadden”. Pat had held nearly every position in his club and was the current acting PRO and his reports of games he sent into the county website were informative, fair and seeped of his love for Bunninadden. His love for Mayo too led to many a discussion but the quick witted Pat always had a comeback. Sligo GAA extends their sympathies to all Pats’ family

Paddy Joe Doohan of Curry and Bunninadden passed yesterday evening after a long illness. Older Sligo GAA members will remember him as a physically strong full back with Curry who he won senior championships with in 1964 and 1972 and played for Sligo in the 1960’s . He settled in Bunninadden parish and his family are Bunninadden to the core with Padraig part of the Connacht winning team of 2007 and a member of the Bunninadden senior championship winning team. His daughter Angela captained Sligo ladies to an All Ireland title whilst his grandson Matthew played at midfield in the recent county intermediate final. Ironically Paddy Joe and Pat Spellman are next door neighbours and would have worked together regularly over the years all the while debating Sligo and Mayo football. Sligo GAA extends their condolences to Geraldine, Myra, Martina, Padraig, Claire, Angela and the extended family.
