This Sunday, June 21st,  we’re inviting everybody associated with Drumcliffe/Rosses Point GAA Club to #GoTheExtraMile for a very worthy cause. Ourselves and St John’s GAA Club in Sligo have come together to raise funds for the Sligo Cancer Support Centre. This Sunday (which also happens to be Father’s Day and the longest day of the year), between10am and 10pm, we are inviting all members, players, supporters, DRP expats and locals within the community to walk or run as far as they can, all the while sporting their DRP colours with community pride. Fathers are especially welcome to take part! Who wins? — Once the clock hits 10pm on Sunday the 21st of June, each club will gather all the distances covered by participants. Its simple, whichever club has completed the greater distance wins. Distances can be calculated using a smartphone or a fitness watch, and on the day will be sent onto the Drumcliffe/Rosses Point GAA Facebook page along with a picture doing your walk/run. All monies raised go directly to the Sligo Cancer Support Centre. If you’d like to make a donation, please visit the #GoTheExtraMile gofundme page: https://www.gofundme.com/f/Go-The-Extra-Mile-Johns-DRP. Thank you to everybody who has donated so generously already. Special mention too for our senior players Niall Canning and Seán Power for all their work in driving this terrific community event.

Football and hurling are returning. From the 29th of June, clubs will be able to resume non-contact team training, provided certain Covid conditions and restrictions are met. The DRP Club Executive is currently working on what the return to training will look like for all our teams – and we will update you on our plans in the coming days. The return to training will be phased. The first teams returning to collective training in Oxfield and Rathcormac will be our older teams:

  • Senior women’s and men’s footballers
  • Minor girls and boys footballers/hurlers
  • Under-16 girls & boys footballers/hurlers.

The club's remaining teams and groups from under-14 down to nursery will resume once the Club Executive has established that the management and supervision of training and match sessions at Oxfield and Rathcormac for the older team groups is working satisfactorily and meeting all the GAA’s Covid regulations. The club is appointing a Covid Officer as per the GAA’s guidelines – but crucial to the success of a return to play will the presence of Covid Supervisors for EVERY team. We will be seeking volunteers from across the age groups to assist team management with this. The duties won’t be onerous but we will need Covid supervisors present in place for every team at every training session/team meeting/match.

Croke Park is holding a free ‘Return to Play’ Club Briefing online this Tuesday evening at 6pm. It’s open to all players, coaches and parents and will give a comprehensive rundown of the GAA’s return to play plan. It will be given via Microsoft Teams. To register, simply visit the link which is available on the club website drp.gaa.ie or on gaa.ie.
