What can we say about our #GoTheExtraMile challenge with St John’s on Sunday? It was a truly memorable community experience. From the Greenlands in Rosses Point, to Teesan, to Devil’s Chimney in Glencar, to Rockley. From Dubai, New York to Sydney and Melbourne -  Just about every household in Rosses Point and Drumcliffe, not to mention so many club connections overseas, all did their bit. It was a proud day for our GAA club. Congrats to our partners St John’s who won the distance count in the end (although it’s understood the Disputes Resolution Authority is showing a keen interest in some of their mileage calculations!). But the real winner was the Sligo Cancer Support Centre. At the time of writing, €30,000 has been raised. Take a bow all of you. There are simply too many people to thank here - but the fab four deserve a special mention for driving this event from start to finish: To Seán Power and Niall ‘Spielberg’ Canning from DRP, and to Paul McNamara and Brian McGowan of St John’s, thank you sincerely for all your efforts (if not your acting abilities). Photo galleries of all our participants are being shared on the club’s Facebook page this week.

Club pitches re-open to training from this Wednesday, June 24th. The DRP club is resuming team training on a phased basis - with our senior men’s and women teams, our minor and Under 16 girls and boys teams to be the first teams back at Oxfield and Rathcormac. It is essential that all teams book pitches through our online registration system. Please contact Club Registration Jimmy O’Brien if you have any queries. The way we train is changing. As we see how the Covid regulations work at these training sessions, we will then work our way down through the age groups to nursery. We are going to need volunteer help with this. Every team will need two Covid supervisors to work or a rota basis - and these people cannot be part of the team management. Expect a text/WhatsApp from our club coaches later this week.

The GAA has produced a short collection of videos for club coaches and parents regarding the ‘return to play’ protocols. The videos are shot and we recommend as many parents and guardians of underage players watch them. We’ll be sharing the videos on our club website drp.gaa.ie and social media pages this week.

This year’s Kellogg’s GAA Cúl Camps will be begin nationwide from July 20th. The revised Cúl Camp schedule means Oxfield’s Cúl Camp date is provisionally re-scheduled for mid-August. The online registration for this particular camp isn’t live yet. The club is finalising how Oxfield will work for a camp of this scale. Once that work is completed, we will update you on what the Cúl Camp plans are.
