Our GSTM U.21 Men’s side championship ended on Sunday Afternoon last after a narrow one-point defeat at the hands of Easkey / St Farnan’s. Played in Easkey in blustery, showery conditions, our lads opened the scoring with a point from Ciaran McKeon, this was the only time over the course of the hour our lads held the lead, a goal and a point in quick succession from our opponents saw them race into a 1.02 to 0.01 lead after ten first half minutes. Both sides swapped points for the remainder of this lively encounter to leave the half time score at 1.04 to 0.04 in favour of the home side.

Easkey / Farnan’s opened the scoring in the 2nd half with a pointed free before Daniel Devine kicked 1.01 in a matter of minutes to level the game at 1.05 each in the 40th min of the 2nd half.

As in the first half both sides swapped points for the remainder of the game with a pointed Easkey / Farnan’s free late into injury time proved the winner on the day.

Final Score Easkey / St Farnan’s 1.09, GSTM 1.08.

Our lads spared nothing in effort over the course of the hour but credit must be given to our opponents who were match sharper on the day.

Best of luck to them for the rest of the championship.

Squad on the day was:

Kyle Davey, Culann Gilmartin, Oran Mc Kenna, Diarmuid Gilmartin, Ben Graham, Cian Mc Gowan, Aaron Davey, Darren Foley, TJ Davey (0.1), Simon Mc Keon (0.1), Dylan Gabiddon (0.1), Lee Flanagan, Ciaran Mc Keon (0.2), Ciaran Jennings (0.1), Daniel Devine (1.1), Thomas Flynn (0.1) Diarmuid Lavin.

Thanks to Dominic, Collie, Hughie and players for their endeavours over the short knock out championship run.

Commiserations to our neighbours St Ronan’s on the Championship Final Replay defeat on Sunday last.

They are Roscommon’s representatives in the Connacht Junior Provincial Championship. They play Owenmore Gaels next weekend.

Sympathy is extended to Former Player, Referee and Administrator Jim Mooney on the passing of his brother Vincent in Meath recently.

The Club’s 50/50 draw takes place every Wednesday. It has proven and continues to be a great success.
