The hurling championship semi-finals took place at Tourlestrane
on Sat. last Sept. 21st. In the first decider the reigning champions
Calry St. Joseph’s took on Naomh Eoin who were featuring in the semi-finals
for the first time in a few years. Calry had the upper hand in the first half
with the scoreline at the break 2-9 to 0-1 in favour of the champions.
Naomh Eoin put in a spirited display in the second half but despite their
best efforts the final scoreline was 4-17 to 0-6 in favour of Calry.
In the second semi-final last year’s runners up Coolera-Strandhill took
on Western Gaels. This proved to be a very closely contested match with
very little between the teams at half-time with Coolera just edging it on a
scoreline of 1-5 to 0-6. In the second half Coolera with the aid of the breeze
edged further ahead but a goal by Western Gaels brought them right back into
things. Coolera tacked on a number of late points to win on a scoreline of
1-12 to 1-9. The championship final is set for the weekend of Oct. 5th/6th.
We wish the U14 county hurlers every success in the Connelly/Cunniffe
competition in Galway on Sat. Sept. 28th.
