Encore for Scór

Encore for Scór

The first county champions of 2015 have already been crowned and Dromore West Community Hall hadn't a spare seat left at the Sligo Scór na nÓg finals on Saturday last as it played host to the GAA's musical and cultural showpiece.

Participation was up on previous years thanks to the hard work of the clubs involved and the every relentless Scór committee. Sligo GAA's cultural officer Keith Henry said "It was one of the biggest and most competitive Scór na nÓg's in a long time and there was only a hair's breadth in deciding the winners of each of the disciplines, but as with any comeptition there can only be one winner".

The host club St.Farnan's gave a hearty West Sligo welcome to all who had travelled to the venue and their hospitality was not in vein as they claimed two titles. Siobhan Foy took the honors in a hotly contested solo singing competition and their Leiriu or Historical Drama group also were successful.

Elsewhere Coolera/Strandhill won the Figure Dancing while Conor McGowan of St Molaise Gaels held on to his recitation title with his GAA piece "The Final Pass". The judges were spoiled for choice in the Instrumental Music competition with six clubs all playing to a very high standard. After much head scratching the Leitrim judges awarded last years Connacht champions Easkey with first place and the Teresa McHale Cup for best performance on the night.

All the county champions will go on to represent the county in the Connacht Finals on January 17th in Claremorris Town Hall at 2pm. The county Scór na nÓg quiz takes place on January 25th in Corhownagh Hall.
