Calry-St. Joseph’s had a comprehensive win against Coolera-Strandhill

in the senior hurling championship final at Markievicz Park on Sat. last.

With good weather conditions and the pitch in excellent shape the

scene was set for a good final. Coolera playing with the aid of a moderate

breeze in the first half looked to take early advantage but Calry got a crucial

early first goal which swung things in their favour. Coolera found it hard

to break down Calry strength at midfield and in the half-back line and struggled

for scores. At half-time the scoreline was 2-8 to 0-4 in favour of Calry. In the

second half and with the aid of the breeze Calry pushed home their advantage.

Despite a number of substitutions and positional switches Coolera while fighting

gamely to the final whistle could not break down a resolute Calry defense.

The final scoreline was 5-13 to 0-6 in favour of Calry to record their third

success in a row at this level. We wish them well in the next round of the Connacht

championship.
