'Last Sat. Nov. 16th. was a special day on
the hurling calendar for Sligo
GAA. Sligo had not one
but two teams competing in Connacht finals at
the Connacht Centre of
Excellence, Ballyhaunis, Co. Mayo. In the first encounter
the all-conquering
Easkey-Farnan's U16 hurling team were up against a strong
Galway team from
Abbeyknockmoy at 12.30pm. The Sligo lads again proved
victorious
on a final scoreline of
0-13 to 3-3 with a sterling display of scoring by
Easkey-Farnans
stalwart Joe McHugh. In
the second match at 2pm Calry-St. Joseph's senior hurling team were
looking to defend their
Connacht Junior Championship title against Galway team An Spideal.
Here again the Sligo team came out on the
right side of this result with a very good win on a final
scoreline of 2-12 to
2-10.
We wish both teams
continuing success in their next matches where they will be
representing
Connacht as well as
Sligo.'
