North West Cup 2016
Saturday,
12th December saw the launch of the North West Cup at the Centre of
Excellence, Scarden. It is a relatively new competition with four U21 teams
taking part in the New Year. The tournament will assist panels in their preparation
for their respective provincial competitions.
The
Counties that will be involved in the Competition are; Sligo, Mayo, Fermanagh and
Donegal. The Cup itself has been donated by the Mc Partland family in memory of
the late Mary Mc Partland an avid GAA supporter. Development officer John
McPartland snr. officially handed over the trophy to Cathaoirleach Seosamh Ó
Taift on behalf of the family with John jnr. (an U21 selector) and other
members of the family in attendance.
Sligo County Board Chairman Joe Taaffe explained that this was the first function to be held in
the almost complete Centre of Excellence. He praised the efforts of the Development Officer
who oversaw the work on the new facility and thanked the Mc Partland family for
their sponsorship of the trophy.
