West Sligo
neighbours Enniscrone/Kilglass and Easkey both recorded good wins in Division
Two of the Fureys Coaches Senior Football League last Saturday evening.
At Quigabar,
Enniscrone/Kilglass scored five goals against an understrength Ballymote in a
5-14 to 0-5 win.
The home
side were also without a number of players, but made relatively light work of
the visitors.
0-8 to 0-2
ahead at the break, Enniscrone/Kilglass played into the breeze in the opening
half but still made good inroads in attack.
Brian
Coleman was the main marksman for the home side in the first half, while
Ballymote’s threat was mainly in the form of frees where Peter Lyons slotted
over twice.
Although
dominating possession, Enniscrone/Kilglass failed to take full advantage with
Ballymote defending well at times.
However,
after the restart the home side asserted their dominance with five goals. John
Paul Carden and Robert Jacob both bagged two goals, while top scorer Coleman
also raised a green flag.
Ballymote
battled, but only managed three second half points.
The win
moves Enniscrone/Kilglass onto four points having already beaten St Farnan’s,
while Ballymote remain rooted to the bottom of the table having failed to win
any of their four games to date.
Elsewhere,
Easkey bounced back from a heavy defeat against St John’s last week to beat
Owenmore Gaels 3-11 to 2-5 at Castletown.
The Sea
Blues now have three wins to their name and currently occupy second place.
Owenmore
Gaels won Division Three in 2015 as well as the Junior ‘A’ championship, and
have performed relatively well on their return to intermediate despite not
registering a win in their first three games.
They trailed
here by 1-6 to 0-3 after a competitive opening half.
The home
side netted three times over the hour – Kevin Duffy, Emmet Healy and Dylan
Sloyan the scorers – to secure a valuable win, though their opponents battled
hard throughout.
Owenmore
Gaels worked hard and scored goals through Ryan Phillips and Niall Hodgins, but
ultimately Easkey’s experience proved too much for the Collooney side.
