Second win for minors
Sligo 1-8 Roscommon 0-5
The Sligo
minor team maintained their unbeaten start to their Connacht Minor League
campaign courtesy of a six-point defeat of Roscommon at Scarden last night.
In blustery
conditions, Sligo had a bolstered squad to pick from following the return of
their St Attracta’s contingent and it was one of those players, Red Óg Murphy,
who scored the winners’ second half goal.
However, it
wasn’t all plain sailing for Sligo and they trailed by a point at the break,
0-3 to 0-2. Ryan Walsh kicked both of the home side’s first half points, but
Roscommon held a slender half-time advantage.
Sligo
improved after the break and fired over six points in the first 15 minutes of
the half with Walsh (2), Rory McHugh, Luke Towey, Barry Gorman and Red Óg
Murphy all raising white flags.
Three points
ahead as the full-time approached, Red Óg Murphy put the result beyond doubt
with a 58th minute goal to give Sligo a second successive win.
They will look
to stretch their winning run to three when they play Leitrim next Saturday at
5pm in Connolly Park, Collooney.
