Minor League Result: Owenmore
Gaels 2-14 Eastern Harps 1-5
The
minor boys got their playoff chances back on track this evening as they
welcomed league leaders Eastern Harps to Connolly Park this evening.
Bursting
out of the blocks, the Gaels scored 6 points in a row. Eastern Harps eventually
got into gear when they converted a well worked point from far out, and
Gaels returned the favour just minutes later. The game kicked into life
ten minutes before half time when Harps well struck free kick hit the
crossbar, then the back of the net, leaving just four points between the teams.
Callum Tonry responded with a rocket from 20 yards out, beating the Harps
keeper. A further two points before half time lengthened lead for the Gaels to
1-10 to 1-1.
The
second half began with a series of big hits, and strong challenges as the
physicality went up a level. The visitors matched the Gaels point for
point in the second half, before Kevin Quigley wrapped up the game with a well
taken goal with ten minutes to go.
After
a couple of disappointing results over the last two weeks, this was a welcomed
team performance and result. The lads worked tirelessly in defense and their
discipline showed, keeping the visitors to six scores. Patient, yet ruthless in
attack and increased physicality in midfield were welcomed traits to this
always improving squad.
The
boys have one game left in the league which will be decisive in deciding how
their league campaign finishes. They are away to Shamrock Gaels which will be
played after the Leaving Certificate.

Mens Division 4 result Coolaney/Mullinabreena GAA Club 3-15 Owenmore
Gaels GAA Club 1-15.
The division 4 mens team were beaten this
afternoon in Cloonacool. It was a close game with 2 quick fire goals from
Coolaney the main difference. Our lads gave everything to get back into game
but came up short. Well done to two players at each end of the spectrum,
17-year-old Tony Fox making his Senior debut and Gerry Dooner, a few years
older than Tony, coming off the bench to good effect.
Team: Gavin Phelan, Kieran White, Kyle Taheny,
Tony Fox, Shane Maye, Brendan McCann (Gerry Dooner), Rory Dillon, Stanley
Harte, Trevor Sweeney, Glen MCormack, Paul Hannon, Shane Kerr, Adrian Egan.
The U16 girls were comprehensively beaten by Calry on Tuesday
Evening. We conceded 6 goals in the opening 10 minutes of the game and left
ourselves with a mountain to climb. Great credit to the girls who battled
bravely to the final whistle , scoring 1.13 in the process. We will have to
improve significantly as we will now play the same opposition in the League Final
in 2 weeks time.
Well Done to the Owenmore Gaels U-8 boys and girls who took
to the field in Ballydoogan last Wednesday. The boys faced a vastly more
experienced St. Marys team but battled well. The girls in the first EVER match
on their own did themselves , families and club proud .
Well done to the Sligo U-14 girls who beat Mayo in Connacht B
Final on a scoreline of 3-2 to 1-10.The side was captained by our very own Erin
Taheny and Hannah Walsh is also a member of the panel
