Our minor boys travelled to Geevagh/St Michael's for their Championship semi-final on Friday last.  Our opposition got on the board first, and then a penalty won by Fergal O'Kelly-Lynch was slotted home by captain Adam Lynch after the keeper saved his first attempt. We added to our lead with points from Niall Campbell and Jay Cox.    After sharing the next two scores Geevagh/St Michaels scored a goal to reduce the difference to a single point.  Then we registered a goal from Fergal O'Kelly-Lynch on his minor debut. However Geevagh/St Michaels took a dominant position with 3 goals before halftime which proved decisive to the match.  Our lads came out fighting in the second half, and despite scoring first to reduce the deficit to four points, unfortunately conceded another goal.   Some scores were exchanged and then Dónal Fidgeon revived the game with a well taken goal. This proved our final score and Geevagh/St Michaels finally sealed their victory with another goal to leave the score 3-8 to 6-5. The lads can be proud as they played as a team and battled to the end. A number of the lads have played their last minor game and we wish them well when they get a chance to tog out with the adult teams.  We also commend the U16’s,  including a couple of the guys who made their first appearance for the minors.

Earlier in the week the U16's played the long awaited playoff against Drumcliff/Rosses Point. We started well but didn’t capitalise fully on the number of scoring chances created.   At the other end, our defence was resolute against a fast moving Drumcliff attack, and the half ended evenly balanced at 7 points after some very exciting football.  The second half was equally enthralling and at 4 minutes to go the teams were tied at 9 points.   Then Drumcliff/Rosses Point scored the only goal of the game and used this momentum to finish with 3 points more and take the match 1-13 to 0-9.  It was a disappointing way to lose but the lads’ strong work ethic and spirit means that we look forward to our semi-final next Sunday at noon away to St John's.

The flags are still up around the neighbourhood and the next big match involving St Marys is Girls U14 “A” Championship final this coming Saturday, with a 3.30 throw-in.   Our best wishes to the girls and their management team led by Colin Ledwith.   Their opposition will be Calry who have been the dominant team throughout the season at this age group, so our girls have a huge task ahead and every bit of support will be welcome.   St Marys have been asked to host the A and B finals, and volunteers are needed for stewarding over the course of the afternoon.

The Senior men eased to the semi-final stage of the Championship with a quarter final win over Coolaney-Mullinabreena by 3-15 to 1-09.   Both teams knew how much was at stake, and we started impressively helped in no small measure when Paul Kilcoyne smashed the ball into the back of the net after 10 minutes.    Halftime saw us at double scores to Coolaney-Mullinabreena on a scoreline of 1-07 to 0-05.   A good start to the second period was imperative and our guys delivered.   The match was sealed by goals from Christopher Kelly and Kyle Cawley and ended 3-15 to 1-09.   The semi-final is next Sunday against Eastern Harps.

The Club Fundraising draw has been announced, and thanks to everyone who supported Club draws previously.   The draw will raise much needed development funds for St Marys facilities which are being used by ever-growing numbers each season
