All Ireland Scór na nÓg Finals a sell out

Sell Out All Ireland Scór na nÓg final in Sligo this weekend.

The GAA’s All Ireland Scór na nÓg final is being held in Sligo this Saturday the 17th of February and it’s a complete sell out. The competition for under 17’s showcases the GAA’s best cultural talent in music, song, dance, drama as well as testing their quiz knowledge.

The competition has been running since 1969 and begins with county rounds before winners are selected at provincial level to go forward to the All Ireland final. Sligo was selected to be the venue by the National Scór committee and this weekend it will host close to 2000 visitors for the finals which are being held in the Knocknarea Arena in IT Sligo.

Sligo GAA’s Irish & Cultural Officer Keith Henry says “the local committee have been working hard since last year planning for this event along with Connacht and National Committee representatives. Between the Quiz and the regular competitions close to 2000 people will be visiting Sligo for the finals which will give a little financial boost to the area”.

Locally the Naomh Eoin Hurling Club will represent Sligo in the Quiz final on Saturday at 11am in the Clayton Hotel. President of the GAA Aogan O’Fearghail will attend the finals along with other GAA dignatories.

“It’s a huge honour for the local committee to host these finals but it’s not without its hard work and huge credit goes to everyone who has and will play their part in it. The event is already a huge success as it has sold out so there will not be any tickets on general sale at the Knocknarea Arena, however people can follow the action online as TG4 are streaming the competition live on YouTube” Keith added.

When the dust settles after this competition it has to be done all over again for the Scór Sinsir finals for those over 17 which will be held once more in the Knocknarea Arena on April 14th. The local County round of Scór Sinsir is on March 3rd in Kilmacowen Hall.
