Senior Football

Our Burns Cars-sponsored senior team took on Div 2 League leaders Calry – St. Josephs in Scarden on Sat last and came up short on a scoreline of 1 – 8 to        0 – 7. Our lads gave a much-improved performance and showed flashes of their true potential and hopefully this improvement will continue into the Championship where they will meet the same rivals in the group stage. In a low-scoring game Calry went into a three point lead before our lads got back on level terms by the half time whistle with points from James Murphy, Neil Hayes and Tommy Kelly to leave the sides level at the break. In the second half each time Calry went ahead Johns pegged them back with points from Shane Stenson, David Rooney and another from Kelly until the league-leaders struck for their goal to give them an important lead going into the last few minutes. Try as they might a pointed Rooney free was the only reply from our lads. Team; N O’Donnell; A Clerkin, E Roche, P McLean; N Hayes, P McNamara, R Fahy; J Murphy, D Burke; M Rooney, D Rooney, T Kelly; C Keaney, S Stenson, C Harrison; Sub S Mc Nicholas for C Keaney .    On Sat next St Johns welcome St Patricks to Stenson Park at 7.00 for a round 6 match.
