Expert Electrical Minor League Finals
Tubbercurry/ Cloonacool 5-14
St. Farnan's/ St. Pat's 2-16
This was a terrific game of football
played in a very sporting manner on a beautiful sunny evening on Friday
last in Markievicz Park. The first point of the match came from Jim Davis
of F/P. Riain Moylan of T/C added two points. P/F added four points without
reply but the game turned in T/C favour when Conor Matthews scored
two cracking goals. Points were exchanged by both sides and at half time
the score read St. Farnan's/ St. Pat's 0-10, Tubbercurry/ Cloonacool 2-8.
Captain Niall Murphy of T/C opened the
scoring in the second half with a fine point. F/P added three points and a goal
from Cahan Hallinan levelled matters after twelve minutes, F/P 1-13, T/C
2-10. A second goal from Jack Clarke gave F/P a two point lead. With fifteen
minutes remaining it was T/C who finished the stronger adding three goals to
their tally. F/ P had chances but couldn't finish. Goals win matches and this
was the case for T/C.
Both sides gave everything in this game
and it was enjoyed by all. Riain Moylan was superb for T/C and forward
Conor Matthews posed a lot of problems for F/P defence. Niall Murphy was
excellent in midfield and Oisin O'Donnell did very well. F/P had good
performances from Cahan Hallinan, Jim Davis, Conor Keaveney and Jack Clarke in
attack and David Hallinan in defence.
The cup was presented to captain Niall
Murphy by Pat Conway who commended both teams on a great display.
