Eastern Harps 6-12 - Drumcliffe Rosses Point 2-3 

 

Eastern Harps claimed the u14 A championship title for 2020 with an empathic win over Drumcliffe Rosses Point in Markievicz Park. It was perfect conditions, with blue skies and the pitch was looking great after its long break due to Covid lockdowns. Two hundred spectators were allowed in attendance on the first day of eased covid restrictions, and the spectators were entertained by some fine individual performances on display. 

 

Harps were the first on the scoreboard with a point after a technical error from Drumcliffe, who responded with the first goal of the game, Sean McCabe caught the kickout and Drumcliffe played it through the hands and it was finished off emphatically by Michael Carroll. Three frees and a brilliant goal from Cian Carthy brought the game up to the water break and the score was 1-3 to 1-0. 

 

Ronan O’Connor got an early score after the water break but then Eastern Harps took over and got 6 scores on the bounce. Eastern Harps wingback Marty Muarry got 4 of those 6 scores, one of which was a nicely taken goal. This brought us to half time with Eastern Harps firmly in control the score was 2-8 to 1-1. 

 

Eastern Harps made the perfect start to the second half with a nicely taken goal by Cillian Duggan who would go on to add two more goals in the next 15 minutes. The game was now only going one way. 

 

In the last quarter Drumcliffe showed a never say die attitude and got a couple of nice scores. Eamon Keane popped over a nice point which topped a very good personal performance. A mistake by Eastern Harps was pounced on by Darragh O’Flaherty and he laid it off to Michael Carroll who blasted it into the net. Eastern Harps substitute Robbie Taylor got a nice goal. Marty Muarry got the final score of the game to bring his tally to 1-4 for the day.
