2020 U12 B Cup Final
A free flowing pulsating game of football greeted those lucky enough to have one of the 100 "Golden tickets" in Sligo GAA Centre of Excellence on Sunday evening last.
St Mary's were first to settle and took the lead with a free from the ever reliable boot of Blaise Brady.
With Dara Clifford giving the Calry defence a tough time, Blaise doubled the Mary's advantage before Gareth Cummins pulled one back from a free for Calry following a foul on Colm Gonley.
A pass intercept from BrÃain McGauran led to an excellent team score that was finished with a fisted point by "Man of the Match" James O'Donoghue.
However a quickfire double by Mary's playmaker Dara Clifford left the Ballydoogan lads ahead 4-2 after the 1st quarter.
With the wind behind the Calry lads after the change, they immediately set about launching the long ball in to the full forward line but credit to the Mary's boys they dealt with it well. Both sides swapped scores from Jack Brehony and James O'Donoghue before Blaise Brady pushed the lead out to 3 with a good free. A Gareth Cummins free reduced the deficit before Milo Kenny left the minimum between the sides at half time, following excellent build up play from Keith Gray.
A long ball early in 3rd quarter from BrÃain McGauran found Colm Gonley who put over from distance to level the score again. Matthew Mulligan chipped in with a great score to put the Calry lads back in front before a Zack Gillen equaliser. Dara Clifford took the game by the scruff of the neck then with 2 quickfire points, 1 from a free. James O'Donoghue popped up again with another cracking score to leave it 10-9 to Mary's starting the final quarter.
2 fast scores from James O'Donoghue, a free from Milo Kenny and yet another from O'Donoghue suddenly saw the Calry outfit go 3 points clear.
Gareth Cummins made the difference 4 with a good score from play. With time against the Mary's lads now, the Calry lads got on top in defence and managed the game well to see it out. Keith Gray added the final score for Calry before the ever hardworking Blaise Brady scored a brace, but unfortunately it was too little too late for the town team and Calry finished out an extremely entertaining game to win by 15-12.
Man of the Match James O'Donoghue (Calry/StJoseph's)
Best for St Mary's Dara Clifford and Blaise Brady
